Managing Messages (Copy, Edit, Delete, Hide, Pin)

When to Use Message Management?

Message management is essential for maintaining the clarity and relevance of conversations. By using the various available options, you can structure and organize exchanges so that they are useful and understandable for all participants, including the Mates.

Steps to Follow

  1. Access the Floating Action Palette:
    • When you hover over a message, a small floating action palette appears, allowing you to perform actions on the hovered message.
  2. Available Options:
    • Hide / Unhide (eye icon):
      • Function: Hide a message by clicking on the eye icon. The icon changes to a "crossed-out eye" (hidden).
      • Usefulness: A hidden message remains visible to humans but becomes invisible to Mates, thus avoiding unnecessary token consumption and contextual disruptions.
      • Unhide: You can make hidden messages visible again if needed.
    • Pin / Unpin (flag icon):
      • Function: Pin a message to indicate its importance. This draws the Mates' attention to this message.
      • Usefulness: Improve conversation consistency by flagging important messages.
      • Unpin: You can unpin the message at any time.
    • Update Message (pencil icon):
      • Function: Edit messages, whether written by the user or by Mates.
      • Limitation: A user can only edit their own messages and Mates' messages, not those of other users.
      • Usefulness: Correct relevant responses without requesting a new one from the Mate, optimizing the agents' history and memory.
    • Copy (copy/paste icon):
      • Function: Copy the content of any member's message.
      • Usefulness: The formatting of the message is preserved when pasted into another application.
    • Additional Options (three-dot icon):
      • Delete Message:
        • Function: Delete a message, removing it entirely from the conversation history.
      • Summarize:
        • Function: Generate a summary of all previous messages in the conversation up to the hovered message.
        • Usefulness: Reduce token consumption in long conversations while retaining the essence of exchanges. However, this also reduces the richness of information used by Mates to generate their responses.

Importance of the Action

Managing messages by copying, editing, deleting, hiding, or flagging them helps maintain clear and relevant conversations. These options help you structure exchanges, draw attention to important information, and optimize token usage, thereby improving the effectiveness of interactions with Mates.
